Hello,
The McGill University School of Information Studies is currently developing a summer practicum program for the 2012 summer semester. This program focuses on students specializing in the knowledge management stream.
The project-based practicum provides increased flexibility in working hours, supervision, and practice. Over the time of the practicum, the student can be exposed to all steps of the information service cycle, and in coordination with the professional on-site supervisor, devise projects of mutual interest; subject to the approval of the McGill practicum coordinator.
Our students can work, at a professional level, on one or several areas in the work site. The total working hours for the student are 120 over l2 weeks, with a 50% minimum on-site requirement. The site supervisor works in tandem with the Practicum coordinator and is responsible for evaluating the student’s progress with a final report, but is not responsible for a mark evaluation.
I would like to invite you to participate in the practicum this summer. Our practicum website (http://www.mcgill.ca/sis/practicum) provides more detail about the practicum program, and includes information for site supervisor(s) and the guidelines for the practicum; we ask that site descriptions be submitted by February 21, 2012.
I look forward to speaking with you about this opportunity to benefit both your organization and our MLIS students. If you have any questions about the practicum, or would like more information, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Nathalie
