STC-Montreal Election: Call for Candidates
STC-Montreal Chapter News | Posted April 16th, 2008
It’s Your Turn to Participate
This is STC-Montreal’s call for candidates and volunteers for positions on the chapter’s administrative council.
For nearly 20 years, STC-Montreal has provided a variety of services to the Montreal technical writing community, including monthly speakers, educational seminars and workshops, publications competitions, a website with online forums and job listings, not to mention social networking events. Now is your opportunity to make a difference to the Chapter and develop and expand your leadership skills.
The STC year begins July 1 and ends June 30. The Montreal chapter — like other STC communities — must elect officers to ensure its continuity and expand its value to you, its members. STC-Montreal is not a closed clique: every year sees new people join the chapter leadership.
The chapter’s administrative council has both elected and unelected positions.
Elected positions
The elected positions are President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Descriptions of the positions follow below.
For the elected positions, we have a formal nomination process and a formal election. If there is only one candidate for a position, the election will be a ratification vote (Yes/No) for the one candidate for that position.
If you are willing to serve in one of these positions, please nominate yourself: send an email to the STC-Montreal Nominating Committee.
Nominees for the elected position must be current STC members, and remain current through term of office.
Close of nominations is Monday, 12 May 2008, to be followed by the election.

Unelected positions
There are many unelected positions on the administrative council: Education Coordinator, Job Bank Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, and more. For a list of the current positions and the people who hold them in 2007-2008, contact us. These positions change with time and members’ interests and energy, so feel free to volunteer for a position that does not exist yet — or even for one, such as Newsletter Editor, which you would like to revive.
If you are interested in any of these unelected positions, or have any questions, please contact the STC-Montreal Nominating Committee by email.
The STC-Montreal chapter is your chapter! Your participation is needed to ensure that it continues to thrive. We ask you to step forward and reply to the STC-Montreal Nominating Committee and let us know how you are willing to serve.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
