Position 1 - Senior Writer

Job Description: Technical Writer
As a technical writer, you will be responsible for developing and
maintaining task-based and reference documentation for both internal and
external audiences. You will research topics through hands-on testing of
software systems and interviewing staff subject-matter experts, and
translate this knowledge into various documentation products. Products may
include user guides, release notes, training guides, installation guides,
and online help. You will also work to ensure the documents are developed
according to established style guidelines.
In addition to developing written content, you will perform documentation
project planning tasks, as well as production and release tasks. You will
gather estimates, prepare project schedules, coordinate necessary
technical reviews, and track schedule progress.
The ideal candidate will possess impeccable writing skills, a keen eye for
detail, and an understanding of software development processes. Further,
he or she must be able to quickly come up to speed on complex technologies
and manage project scope changes and tight deadlines. Leadership and
project planning abilities are essential for this position.
Responsibilities:
•Research, outline, write, update, and verify content for print and online
delivery.
•Analyze and understand technical specifications, customer requirements,
user interfaces, and tasks in order to produce clear, concise
documentation.
•Define scope of own work, estimate project tasks, update schedules, and
complete tasks on time and in synchronization with software development
cycles.
•Ensure that documentation adheres to established style guidelines, and
work to improve documentation processes where needed.
•Submit work for, and perform, technical, peer, and editorial reviews.
•Act as a mentor for more junior members of the team.
•Create screenshots and illustrations as required.
•Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the company’s products and an
understanding of their role and impact in the overall PACS system.
•Produce other documentation that may be required for various departments
throughout the company.
Requirements:
•BA in Communications, English, or a related discipline.
•5 to 10 years’ experience creating professional documentation.
•Strong knowledge of FrameMaker (Structured and Unstructured), Adobe
Acrobat, and PaintShop Pro or Photoshop.
•Experience taking documentation projects from conception through
delivery.
•Excellent English language writing skills.
•Strong organizational and time management skills.
•Drive and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
•Knowledge of Windows operating systems.
•Experience authoring online help systems.
Assets:
•Familiarity with XML, HTML, Wiki, WebWorks Publisher, and Microsoft Word.
•Knowledge of Unix or Linux (Red Hat).
•Previous experience relating to imaging systems, radiology, or the
medical industry in general.
