Team Lead, Technical Writing

TEAM LEADER, TECHNICAL WRITING # 8833

The Team Leader, Technical Writing works with a team to produce
product documentation, including end user documentation such as
installation manuals, user manuals, system administration
manuals, and online help. As part of the technical documentation
team, you will support the writing team by providing both
substantive and copy edits to ensure that documentation meets
requirements.

Responsibilities:

- Produce end user technical documentation.
- Take part in the development of content management strategies,
the selection of tools and applications, and the creation of team
guidelines and process improvements.
- Plan, allocate and manage material and human resources.
- Provide editorial feedback to the technical writers, including
edits to consider in a document’s usability, concept and intended
use, content, organization, and copyediting.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop technical content
while ensuring technical accuracy.
- Hold team and project meetings, organize workflow, assist with
goal setting.

Requirements:

- University degree in a professional writing related area of
study or equivalent combination of education, training and
experience.
- 3 years of team leadership experience.
- 5 or more years experience with the following applications:
Adobe FrameMaker, WebWorks Publisher (ePublisher Pro).
- 5 or more years of recent technical writing experience and
interpreting technical documentation for end users (experience in
documenting software products is an asset).
- Excellent proficiency in English.
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of technical writing methods, trends, and
technologies (such as single sourcing, template creation, XML).
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to balance
multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving abilities.
- Project management experience and proven ability to prioritize
work and meet work commitments.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make
independent decisions.
- Self-directed: A wide degree of creativity and latitude is
expected, you must be able to organize tasks, manage subject
matter experts, drive and initiate projects, and escalate issues
appropriately.
