For the past 15 years, the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) (www.lisa.org) has served as a forum about best practices for doing business globally, particularly in the areas of content management, translation and localization. Hosting at least four major conferences annually, LISA brings together service providers, clients, standardizers, and technology vendors to promote and improve the localization industry.

“You can do anything with our software,” they reply. Or maybe “It depends who you are,” or “End users don’t really use our software directly,” or “It depends on your exact hardware/software configuration,” or “You know, we’ve had a lot of trouble with documentation for this product!”

Most Technical Writers working today didn’t plan or study to become Technical Writers; they fell into it while planning or studying to do or be something else. Technical writing is an excellent second or third career for people who already have technical knowledge or writing experience and who are looking for stimulating new challenges. It is a hot career with a reported average entry-level salary of $42,000/year.
