Duration: From May 7, 2012 to August 24, 2012 (4 months and we can extend it to 8 months)
Salary: Between 15 to 20$/hour (according to the academic level)
Work hours: Between 9:00am and 5pm
Genetec is looking for an experienced Technical Writer who can work in a dynamic environment with a growing organization. We are known for our outstanding customer service and innovative solutions and we are looking for a strong team player who believes in delivering that same quality, while managing and improving our technical documentation.
The technical writer intern will be part of the Technical Writing Services team and will work closely with the engineering and product management teams to create various forms of documentation for Genetec products (end-user documentation such as installation manuals, release notes, user manuals, system administration manuals, and on-line help).
The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced development cycle. This technical writer position requires both strong teamwork qualities and the ability to work productively with minimal supervision. The Technical Writer will report to the Team Leader—Technical Writing Services.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Write new material as well as update and maintain existing material.
- Write conceptual information, reference documentation, user procedures, online help, tutorials and examples.
- Produce professional quality graphics.
- Extract information and grasp complex technical concepts by interviewing developers, sales engineers, technical support team and experimenting with software.
- Work as part of a team, writing in a common style, and working with other writers to develop and document guidelines and procedures.
- Adjust to a very dynamic development environment.
- Reporting project status and issues accurately and in a timely fashion.
Requirements:
- Technical writing, communication or equivalent field of studies.
- Knowledge of technical writing methods, trends, and technologies (such as single sourcing, template creation, XML).
- Excellent oral communication skills in both English and French.
- Excellent English writing skills, strong attention to details.
- Self-directed/enthusiastic team player with a strong motivation to succeed.
- Proven track record in successful completion of difficult tasks on schedule and with little guidance.
Technical Requirements:
- Excellent knowledge of Windows XP, FrameMaker, WebWorks Publisher, Microsoft Office.
- Excellent knowledge of graphic design tools (PaintShop Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, QuartXPress).
- Excellent understanding of computer systems.
