Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Publications, the Communications Associate will perform duties related to a variety of communications activities, including the preparation of calendars, recruitment publications, and updates to web pages. He/she will review, write, and translate a range of documents intended for internal and external audiences.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Communications team, provide consultation and assistance with the development of electronic and written publications.
  • Translate internal and external communication materials from English to French ensuring quality, adherence to McGill standards, and consistency of terminology.
  • Using McGill’s content management system (CMS), edit and update University calendars (catalogs) and websites.
  • Validate translations, verify accuracy, and research solutions as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants for this position will have a strong ability in translation (English to French) and should possess an undergraduate degree as well as two years’ related experience. A certificate in translation an asset. Demonstrated experience in editing and proofreading a variety of publications. Experience with desktop publishing, HTML and CMS desirable. Adaptable to learning new technology. Self-motivated, a strong team player, and a developer of creative solutions. English and French, written and spoken.

This position is part-time (20 hours per week).

Thevco: Technical Writer

Thevco: Technical Writer

Thevco Electronic is seeking for a technical writer to join its technical
writing team in St-Hubert.

Tasks & Responsibilities
•        Support and maintain the existing documentation
•        Work in collaboration with engineers and technical writing team to produce user guides for various electronic devices
•        Have very good writing skills in English
•        Do the page layout with a desktop publishing software
•        Follow the translation processes with external agencies
•        Take part in learning and implementing the DITA architecture
•        Take part in learning and implementing a CMS
•        Work with the team to improve work processes

Experience
•        3 to 5 years of work experience as a technical writer (provide English writing samples/portfolio).

•        Able to understand and synthesize concepts
•        Good team player
•        Polyvalent and easy-learner
•        Interested in learning about new technologies
•        Good common sense
•        Accountable and engaged person

Academic Requirements & Technical Knowldege
•        Perfectly bilingual (written & spoken)
•        Excellent knowledge of the technical writing style
•        Desktop publishing tool (InDesign, PageMaker, Framemaker)
•        Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (asset)
•        Knowledge of the engineering work environment (asset)
•        DITA or DocBook XML writing standard (asset)
•        Structured authoring principles (asset)
